Candian Promotion Scores Big Name Fighter

By: Ian Brown

09/21/07 - Canadian MMA is booming, especially with an unprecedented signing of top ten Light Heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, twin brother of former PRIDE Heavyweight champion and current UFC Heavyweight contender Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to a 2-fight contract by the HCF. The addition of “Minotoro” is sure to solidify the Hardcore Championship Fighting as the premier organization in Canada, as reported by mmanews.com

Nogueira is not only a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, but an accomplished boxer as well. He has won the Brazilian Championship and the South American games. Most recently he won a bronze medal in the 2007 Pan American Games.

Although coming off a shocking loss to then unheralded Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Rogerio’s striking skills combined with his grappling ability makes him a dangerous fighter for anyone.

His first fight will be in November, either on the 24th or 30th, maybe even as late as December 1st in Vancouver. However, the fact the MMA is currently banned in Vancouver could hinder that. He is also schedueled to fight in January on the HCF card in Calgary, Alberta.
