UFC 73 Preview

The time is near and UFC 73 is one day away. I find that this event has more of a cant miss air about it than the last few events. This card really does have a lot of good fights lined up that should make it into the top 3 MMA cards of the year.

Time for my fight predictions:

Silva vs Marquardt:

Classic battle of striker vs grappler. Anderson Silva has arguably the best striking in the UFC Middleweight division right now vs the highly effective ground game of Nate “The Great”.

Prediction: Marquardt via decision. Silvas striking will be stifled by the take down ability of Marquardt on the way to a off and on ground and pound decision.

Sherk vs Franca: Both fighters want this fight to go to the ground but for different reasons. “The Muscle Shark” wants to ground and pound his way to victory over the BJJ blackbelt who will more than happily go to the ground with him. Franca’s stand-up game will be quickly negated by Sherks takedowns.

Prediction: Sherk via decision after Franca hold on for dear life for 5 rounds.

Evans vs Ortiz:

Two very talented wrestlers in a takedown/ground and pound battle. Evans holds the clear advantage in striking and speed while Ortiz holds the experience and strength advantage.

Prediction: Evans by KO/TKO round 2 after “The Huntington Beach Badboy” fails to get “Sugar” to the ground and tries to stand with the much faster crisper Evans.

Herring vs Noguiera:

The long awaited UFC debut of one of the top 3 heavyweights in the world. Noguiera is comfortable no matter where this fight goes while Herring will try desperately to keep the fight standing.

Prediction: Noguiera ends this fight quickly in round 1 via submission.
